Himalayan Poplar is a large deciduous tree with a clean straight bole and belongs to the family Salicaceae. It is also known as Bagnu, Banpipal, Pahari Pipal, Chalun, and Safeda.
The plant can be grown on a variety of soils, typically on light soils. It is commonly seen in mixed forests with oak, deodar and other pines, along streams. The bark is reputed for the treatment of tearing rheumatism, fevers, and menstrual cramps. The poles are used for construction of buildings.
