Hauz Rani

Hauz-i-Rani

Hauz Rani, originally Hauz-i-Rani, is an old settlement in South Delhi District that dates back to the 13th century. It was a small village developed in the neighborhood of Muhammad Shah Tughluq's city of Jahanpanah. ‘Hauz’ is a Persian word meaning ‘reservoir’, may be alluding to an old tank situated at Jahanpanah, and ‘Rani’ means ‘queen’. Hauz Rani is situated north of Khirki, near Mehrauli in Malviya Nagar.

Siri Fort, Jahanpanah City Forest, Begampiri Masjid, Khirki Masjid and Sri Aurobindo Ashram are some places of tourist interest in the neighborhood. The shopping hub of Connaught Place is about 13 km north.

Hauz Rani can be reached by bus from the interstate bus terminus at Kashmiri Gate. Indira Gandhi International Airport is about 15 km west.
