An annual event in most temples in South India is the grand nine-day festival of
Brahmotsavam. Each day of the festival features a different ‘vahana’ (vehicle) for the deity to be taken for a procession. On the sixth day, during morning, the deity is mounted on an embellished vehicle called the Hanumantha Vahana.
The Hanumantha Vahana actually represents Lord Hanuman, a great devotee of Lord Ram. Hanuman, who served the lord with utmost devotion, is highly revered by the Hindus. Getting a glimpse of the temple deity mounted on Hanumantha Vahana is considered to be auspicious.
