Handloom Saree

Handloom Saree is made entirely by hand, without the help of any machine or automation. The loom used in weaving this saree is a simple structure of wooden beams, ropes and poles. The weaving process is slow, usually taking 3 to 10 days for an average saree, which includes the labor of 2 to 3 weavers.

In some varieties of handloom sarees, the thread is handspun. Such saree is called ‘Khadi saree’. The fabric is soft and has a rich texture and finish to it.

Weaving of a handloom saree is usually restricted to the rural areas, with the motifs reflecting the culture of the region. Usually a saree is named after the region in which it is produced. Some sarees can be produced only in their places of origin because of the particular raw-material, climate or skilled labor required for its making.
