Hamadryas Baboon

Sacred Baboon

Hamadryas Baboon (Papio hamadryas) is considered as the sacred attendants of Thoth, the scribe to the gods, by the ancient Egyptians. Male baboons are gray with a long shoulder cape, while females lack the cape and are olive brown. The skin on the face and rump is pink. It feeds on grass, roots, tubers, fruits, nuts, invertebrates and small birds and mammals.
