Halshashti

Halshashti, also known as Balarama Jayanti, is a festival celebrated on the sixth day (Shashti) of the Krishna Paksha of Bhadra (August- September). Balram, the elder brother of Lord Krishna was born on this day. The main weapon of Balram was a 'hala' a 'plough', so this festival is called Halshashti. It is also known as Har Chhat or Lalhi Chhat. Goddess Shashti is worshipped during this festival and people pray for the prosperity and long life of their sons. People also observe fast on this day.
