Hadjod is a climbing herb commonly seen as wild plant. It belongs to the family Vitaceae. Hadjod is also called asthisonhara, chaudhari, nalleru, pirandai, and mangaroli.
This perennial crop can be grown in variety of soil textures, but likes loamy soils. It is very sensitive to climate changes, and needs warm tropical climate. Stem bears simple or lobbed, dentate leaves; bisexual, tetramerous flowers; and globose or obovoid fleshy fruits.
Hadjod is given in piles, asthma, digestive troubles, cough and loss of appetite. It is recognized as good healer of bone fractures. The stems and roots produce strong fiber. Young shoots are added to curries.
