Guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) is a small, burrowing rodent. Its life span is about 6 to 8 years. It has a compact body with small ears, small legs, and long claws. It has no tail. The coat color can be white, brown, yellow or black. The fur is short or long, and straight or curly.
The pig is about 11 inches (28 cm) long and weighs about 2 pounds. Its front top teeth grow throughout the life. The front feet contain four toes, while the back feet have only three. It feeds on grass, herbs and other plant material.
