Greater Yam, a tropical plant needs loose, deep, well drained and fertile soil. For a good result, it requires day length greater than 12 hours during initial stages and shorter day length during the later part of the growing season. Frost and high temperatures and waterlogged conditions are not suitable for the crop. Yam yields a single big tuber in which only one end of the tuber is taken as good seed material.
