Greater Coucal (Centropus sinensis) is a clumsy, glossy black bird with noticeable chestnut wings and long, broad, black, graduated tail. It is a largely terrestial and nonparasitic cuckoo. It is seen singly or in pairs, stalking along the ground in the undergrowth. The bird feeds on caterpillars, large insects, snails, lizards, young mice and birds' eggs. It has a deep resonant call, in series of 6 or 7 and up to 20, repeated quickly in varying tempo.
The bird’s nesting season is from February to September. Nest is generally an untidy, large globular mass of twigs and leaves with a lateral entrance.
