Greater Burdock is a biennial herb with a brown, spindle shaped taproot and is seen in waste places, waysides and hills.
The plant possesses medicinal properties and is considered as a blood purifier. It contains starch, mucilage, tannins and resins. Greater Burdock shows diuretic, antiseptic, diaphoretic, hypoglycaemic and choleretic properties. A decoction is taken to relieve ulcers and eczema. Oil extracted from the plant is used as a stimulant for hair growth.
