Great Elephant Race

Tourist Festival



The Great Elephant Race is a spectacular march of elephants, organized by the tourism department of Kerala, which usually starts on the 17th of January every year and lasts for four days. In this 101 beautifully caparisoned elephants march from Thrissur and reach Thiruvananthapuram on the fourth day. On the way they halt at Kochi and Alappuzha. During this period boatraces and folk arts are conducted which help the tourist know about the culture of Kerala. This festival ends at Kovalam Beach on the fourth day with cultural programs and seaside barbecue.
