Great Barbet




Great Barbet (Megalaima virens) is relatively large bird, around 32 cm in size.

It is long tailed with large yellowish bill, dark bluish head, brown breast and mantle. The underparts are streaked olive and yellow and the undertail coverts are red.

It tends to stay high in the trees, making it difficult to see. The bird feeds mainly on fruit.

The bird can be spotted in the regions close to the Himalayas and northeast India.
