Golden Birdwing Butterfly

Golden Birdwing (Ornithoptera aeacus), always found on collectors’ list, is distributed in Himalayan region, Mussoorie (Uttar Pradesh), Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

Head is black with red collar and wingspread is around 11 to 18 cm. The color of the abdomen varies from yellow to grayish-black, with or with out broad bands on upper side. The anterior wing of Golden Birdwing is dark brownish-black with grey-white markings, while the hind wing is yellow-gold with black spots.
