Hoi Mata / Ahoi Mata



Hoi Mata is a goddess presiding over the well being of the family. She is very often identified as a form of Shakti. Goddess Hoi is worshipped during Hoi Ashtami festival.

The mud walls of rural homes are painted on festivals such as Diwali and Karwa Chauth, and for worshipping Hoi or Ahoi, the goddess whose blessings are invoked for the well-being and protection of children by their mothers. Hoi is also worshipped as Sanjhi in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, where young girls pray to her to secure good husbands.
