It has a long dark gray bill that is curved down and dark purple to black feathers on the head, neck, back and belly. The legs are long and black and wings and tail are shiny green. In breeding season, the glossy ibis has rusty-red feathers and a pale blue line around its face. The bird nests colonially in trees, often with herons. Usually 3 to 4 eggs are laid in a nest of twigs and sticks. It feeds on fish, frogs, insects and small snakes. The bird can be seen in Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, Haryana.
