Ghodi Song

Ghodi Song is a regular feature in a Hindu wedding in certain parts of North India. The groom is seated on a ‘ghodi’(horse) and taken in a procession to the venue of the wedding. The Ghodi song is sung when the procession is about to leave the groom’s home.

The Ghodi song has a fun angle to it. The groom is teased for his behavior of arriving late. Usually when all the relatives and friends are ready for the procession, it is always the groom who arrives late. The relatives therefore sing this song to ridicule him. Apart from the teasing part, this song also reflects the family’s pride and joy in the wedding.
