Gautam Smriti

Gautam Smriti is a book containing the code of conduct to be followed by a person. This book was composed by a revered sage named Gautam.

Gautam Smriti describes the duties of a person in each stage of his life. These duties vary according to the caste and the social status of the person. Apart from the duties, there is a mention of the ways in which a person can prevent his sins. In case some sin is committed, the manner in which the compensation can be done is also written in this text. There is also a reference to the distribution of wealth among the sons.

Although the rules and conduct specified in Gautam Smriti are somewhat similar to Manu Smriti, the former is more logical in its approach as compared to the later.
