Garuda Purana

Extoling Lord Vishnu, Garuda Purana is prominent among the 18 Puranas and is attributed to Garuda. It has around 19,000 verses and a large chunk of it deals with the birth of Garuda.

This purana describes about astronomy, medicine, grammar, life after death and also the structure and qualities of diamonds. The verses from Garuda Purana are recited during cremation in North India.
