Garden Rue (Botanical name, Ruta graveolens) is indigenous to Europe, but it is largely cultivated in India. Rue is a perennial herb with rounded, divided green/blue-green leaves and flowers.

Rutin, an alkaloid is isolated from this plant, which is useful in phytochemical industry. The herb possesses antiseptic, stimulant, antispasmodic and anthelmintic properties. Rue is recognized as a remedy for rheumatism. An infusion of the herb is taken to eliminate worms. Chewing of fresh leaf can soothe tension headaches, ease palpitations and anxiety-related problems. Fragrance of the plant keeps snakes away.
