Ganeshsthapna Embroidery

Ganeshsthapna is a style of embroidery practiced by the women of Gujarat. This particular style depicts Lord Ganesh and his objects of affection. Outlines of the designs are first drawn on white cloth using red or yellow color. They are then filled with stitches of various shades and hues.

The images include Lord Ganesh, Riddhi and Siddhi (his wives), rat (his vehicle) and ‘laddu’ (his favorite food). Symbolic forms like sun, moon, cow, elephant, horse and various plants and birds are also the part of the motif.
