Fuldol

Pushpadolotsav

Fuldol is a colorful festival celebrated a day after Holi. On this day the devotees construct a hindola (swing) of flowers and install the idol of Lord Krishna into it. They swing the deity gently. The festival is also referred by the name Pushpadolotsav.

This ritual of swinging has a legend behind it. Lord Krishna and Arjuna were once seated on a decorated swing by their followers. The followers sang devotional songs dedicated to both and swung them gently. The swinging ritual is believed to have continued since then.

On the day of the Fuldol, the devotees spray colored water on each other. They prepare a sacred food called fagwaa, which consists of roasted chick peas, dates and roasted corns. The sacred food is first offered to the deity, following which the devotees distribute it among themselves.
