Fig (Ficus carica) is distributed in parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. It can be grown in a variety of soil textures, from sandy to clay.

It is very sensitive to climate changes. A dry area with irrigation facilities is apt for its development, but high temperature can cause sunburn to the fruit and can damage the trunk of the tree. Propagation is mainly by hardwood cuttings.
