Fawng Basket

Fawng is a general purpose used by the Lushai tribe of Mizoram. It is a shallow square shaped basket. The base and rim has a diagonal length of 400 mm, while the height measures 160 mm.

The Fawng is woven using split bamboos. The diagonal weave method is employed, with the weaving elements interlaced perpendicularly in a 2-up-2-down or 3-up-3-down twill fashion. In some cases the corners are reinforced with split cane bindings.
