Elelakkaradi

Tribal dance of Kerala

Elelakkaradi is a well-known dance form of the tribal group called Irular of Attappadi in Palakkad District. The dance depicts the fight of the tribals with wild bears, which often attack their hamlets.

The dancers move vigorously in rhythmic steps to the beat of drums. Shouts and war-cries are produced in between to create a mood of heroism. The whole community of men, women and children take part in this dance.
