Dunlin

Dunlin (Calidris alpina) is the commonest small wader found along the coast. The size varies from 16 to 20 cm. It has a slightly down-curved bill and an idiosyncratic black belly patch in breeding plumage.

It is one of a dozen small waders, which display a pale wing bar and white sides to the tail. The bird feeds on insects, snails and worms.
