Downy Woodpecker




Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens) is approximately 16 cm in size with a chisel-shaped bill. The male has a black forehead and crown with a red spot on the back of its head. The bird usually nests in holes in trees. Female lays three to six white eggs in each clutch. The bird feeds on insects, seeds, grains and suet.

Downy Woodpecker can be seen in the Dudhwa National Park, Uttar Pradesh.
