Dosmoche Festival

Dosmoche Festival is a winter festival celebrated in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir. This two day festival is held in the month of February. This is an ancient tradition started by the kings of Ladakh.

During this festival, the lamas burn a colourful structure, fundamentally made of thread, known as 'DO'. It is symbolic of the sacred ritual usually performed by the monks of Tuk Thog Monastery.

The main ritual is escorted by mask dances, which are alternately performed by monks of various monasteries. The dances are accompanied by musicians and the monastic orchestra.

All monasteries from Leh, Nubra and Likir join the festival. They believe that this annual ritual protects from evil spirits and natural calamities.
