Dhwaja Sthambha

Dhwaja Sthambha is a common feature in a south Indian temple. It is the flag post located in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Such kind of post is usually constructed from wood, measuring 50-60 feet in height. The wooden post is given a copper or gold plating to add more grandeur. The base is adorned with the carvings of some mythical or divine beings.
