Dhumsa

A modern version of Dundubhi, Dhumsa is a large bowl shaped kettle drum found in Orissa. It is enclosed in an iron case with buffalo skin covering, and is suspended by the shoulders. The instrument is played with the help of two blunt sticks beating on it, which produces a reverberating sound. It is used along with Chhau Dance, a famous martial dance in Orissa.
