Native of India and the Philippines, Devil's tree (Latin name, Alstonia scholaris) is characterized by a furrowed trunk and oblong stalked leaves. The leaves, bark, which is odourless and very bitter, and latex, are considered medicinal parts of the plant.
It is very useful in homoeopathic system of medicines. It is reputed for the treatment of diarrhea, dysentery, skin disorders, vitamin B deficiency, fevers and catarrhal dyspepsia. Saitan-ka-jhad and Chatian are other names.
