Devika Rani

A renowned actress of the thirties and forties, Devika Rani is often referred to as the first lady of the Hindi screen. Karma and Achchut are among her memorable films. Devika is credited with the founding of the Bombay Talkies in 1934. She was also a member of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Lalit Kala Akademi, and National Handicrafts Board. Her achievements include the Padmashree and Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Devika passed away in 1994.
