Deva Diwali




Deva Diwali is a festival celebrated by the Jains. This event falls on the third day of Diwali. According to Jainism, Lord Mahavir had attained Nirvana on this day.

Deva Diwali is celebrated with great fervor in all Jain homes. Lord Mahavir is worshipped with utmost devotion. Agam Sutras, containing the teachings of the lord, are read. The homes and temples are illuminated with oil lamps. Lamps are also lit in the open premises of the buildings. A feast is organized for the whole family.

Most of the Jain people throng to the Girnarji Teerth in Gujarat to celebrate the special event.
