Deoria, the administrative headquarters of
Deoria District, is situated 50 km southeast of
Gorakhpur in
Uttar Pradesh.
The town is an important agricultural center of the district. Sugar is the principal industry of the local populace and a number of sugar processing factories can be seen across the city. Apart from sugarcane, rice, oilseeds and pulses are cultivated in the outskirts.
The Buddhist pilgrimage center of
Kushinagar is situated nearby.
The nearest airport is at Varanasi. Deoria Sadar Railway Station is on the Gorakhpur-Varanasi line.
