Deepa Mehta

An internationally acclaimed film-maker, Deepa Mehta is the director of several controversial films such as Fire and Water. Fire deals with lesbianism. Water portrays the life of Hindu widows in the 1930's. Her Earth 1947 is a film based on Bapsi Sidhwa's novel Ice Candy Man. It won seven awards at the Melbourne film festival. Sam and Me, Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Fly Away Home, Camilla, and Travels with Father are her other significant films. Fly Away Home was selected for the prestigious New York Film Festival.
