Cuisines of Tamil Nadu




Tamil Nadu is very famous for a wide variety of mouth watering food for the vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. Tamilian's diet consists of rice, grains, lentils, vegetables, meat and fish.

Breakfast includes idli (steamed rice cakes), dosa (pancake made from a batter of rice), vada, pongal, and uppuma. The typical Tamilian lunch consists of cooked rice served with a number of vegetable dishes, papad, pickle, sambar, chutneys, rasam, curd, and payasam.

Another speciality of Tamil Nadu is its Chettinad Cuisine which consists of spicy non-vegetarian food. Tamil Nadu is also famous for its filter coffee.

Famous Tamil dishes include curd rice, sambar, keerai, masial, jeera kuzhambu, lemon rice, paruppu urandai kozhambu, sweet pongal, tamarind rice, paruppu usili, potato koottu, pepper rasam, rice upma, sweet pumpkin curry, vatral kuzhambu, vendaikkai curry, and ven pongal.
