Crimson-fronted Barbet

Crimson-fronted Barbet (Megalaima rubricapilla) is a plump bird, with a short neck, large head and short tail. It is a small barbet of 15 cm.

The adult has green body, a blue band down the side of the head and neck, and a black crescent behind the eye. The bird gets the name from the bristles, which fringe their heavy bills.

It is an arboreal species of open woodland and feeds on fruit and insects. It nests in a tree hole and lays two to four eggs.

The bird can be spotted in Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Tamil Nadu.
