Crimson Rose (Pachliopta hector) is a very common red-bodied swordtail butterfly of 9 to 12 cm. It is widely distributed in south India.
The upper side of the adult is bluish black in colour. The forewing is lined with irregular discal and apical white bands. Large discal bands presented on the hind wing are nearly round. The red color and crimson markings help the insect to keep avian predators away.
