Costus (Latin name, Saussurea lappa) is an erect robust perennial herb. Its roots contain resinoids, essential oil, alkaloid, inulin, tannins and sugars. The essential oil possesses strong antiseptic, disinfectant, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is very useful in the treatment of bronchial asthma.
It is also known as Kushtha.
