The craft of Conch Shell decorating can be traced back to the Indus Valley Civilization. Obtaining from the ocean bed, the conch got an entry as a decorative and auspicious item in India, owing to the cult of Krishna. Craftsmen create episodes from the Hindu epic Mahabharata or stories that revolve around Lord Krishna on these shells. Each artisan has his own unique style and takes a minimum of two to three months to make just one conch shell article.
