Common Tree Shrew




The Common Tree Shrew (Tupaia glis) is a squirrel-like animal seen in North-eastern India and parts of West Bengal. Its size varies from small to large with a long, well-furred tail. Head-body length is around 105-240 mm, and tail is around 130-215 mm. The animal weighs 85-185 gm.

The short tactile hairs are covered on the brows, lips and cheeks. The naked nose pad is reticulated and cut squarely across. The tail is long covering long hairs on the dorsal side and shorter hairs on the ventral side. According to subspecies, upper side varies from dark brown, pale brown, reddish, grizzled olivaceous grey, blackish grey to grizzled black. underparts are lighter, whitish, orange or rusty red, buffy or dark brown.
