Common Tailorbird

Common Tailorbird (Orthotomus sutorius) is about 12 cm long (excluding elongated male tail). Its rufous fore crown and long tail (often cocked) are its characteristic features. The upper parts are olive green. It is occasionally seen in woodland and major urban parks. The bird is noisy with a variety of call notes. It is also called Long-tailed Tailorbird.

The bird feeds on insects, both adults and larvae. Small fruits, berries, and tiny seeds are also consumed.

Common Tailorbirds 'sew' its nest out of green leaves. About 2 to 5 pastel eggs are laid, these are pastel blue with brown speckles.

The bird is widely seen in forest edge, garden, parks, open country, scrub and mangrove.
