Common Snipe

Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago) is a shy bird. It is a long-billed and short-legged brown bird with stripes on back and head. The tail is reddish.

Nest is made on dry ground when possible and near clumps of grass, which the birds pull down over it. The bird inhabits marshes, wet meadows, and moors. Insects, primarily fly and beetle larvae, are the snipe's most important food. It also eats earthworms, small crustaceans, snails and small quantities of plant material.

Common Snipe can be seen in Bund Baretha Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajasthan.
