Common Peacock Butterfly

Common Peacock (Princeps polyctor) is commonly seen in the Himalayas, from Jammu and Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh.

The head, abdomen and thorax are black with irradiant green scales. The wingspan is around 9 to 13 cm. A narrow golden-greenish discal band on the upper forewing and 3 to 4 red crescents on the upper hind wing make the insect nice-looking.

It is collected for creating decorative articles.
