Common Palm Civet

The Common Palm Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) is black or blackish-brown with coarse hair. Body length is up to 120 cm including a tail of 60 cm. The Civet weighs 3-5 kg. The head is almost black with a spot of white below or above the eyes. Limbs are often black. The color of the coat varies seasonally and individually from olive-grey to cream with darker bases to the hair. There are a few stripes on the flanks. The tail is as long as the head and body, and its tip is darker than the body.

The animal is mostly solitary, nocturnal, and largely arboreal. It eats birds, rodents, insects, and fruits such as tendu banana, pineapple, coffee and berries. Common Palm Civet is found almost every where in India.
