Common Leopard Butterfly




Common Leopard (Phalanta phalantha), also Leopard Butterfly, is a common butterfly seen in the gardens and the Himalayas, up to a height of 2500 m. It can be also found on the plains and at the edges of the jungles.

The upper surface of wings is tawny with rows of black spots. The wingspan is about 5-6 cm. In hot climates, it is seen drinking water from damp patches and moist places on roads. Leopard Butterfly is fond of flowers of lantana, thistles and pigeon berry.
