Common Buzzard is a medium sized raptor with large, broad, blunt-ended wings, short-broad tails and short-rounded heads. It grows up to 50 to 57 cm in length. It has a variable plumage, ranging from pale to dark brown. The tail is barred and there is often a white patch on the underside of the wings.
The bird inhabits forests and areas with scattered woodland. Buzzards mostly hunt rabbits, but also feed on rodents, ground birds, reptiles and carrion. The nest is usually built with sticks, heather and other foliage, and is placed high up in a tree or on a cliff edge. The female lays two to three eggs from late March to May.
It is mainly found in India during winters.
