Common Banded Peacock Butterfly

Common Banded Peacock (Papilio crino), a favorite variety for commercial collectors, is commonly found in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and southern West Bengal.

The head, thorax and abdomen are black, heavily dusted with irradiant green scales. The wingspan is around 8 to 10 cm. A bluish-green discal band is present on the upper forewing. The upper rear wing is characterized by a green discal band with inner margin. The butterfly is a speedy flier with wavering flight. It is plentiful during south-west monsoon season.
