Coffee Senna, an annual herb, grows throughout India up to an altitude of 1,500 m. The flowers are yellow in color. The pods are recurved, glabrous and compressed. The seeds, dark olive green, are ovoid, compressed, hard, and smooth and shining.
Coffee Senna shows tonic, febrifugal and purgative properties. It is used as a blood tonic and is an excellent diuretic. The seeds are also useful in convulsions and heart diseases.
It is also known as Negro Coffee and Rubbish Cassia.
