Clearing Nut Tree, a medium sized deciduous tree, belongs to the family Loganiaceae. It is mainly used to purify water for drinking. Two varieties are recognized, Strychnos potatorum and Strychnos nuxvomica. The above two are differed in bark, flowers and fruits colors; shape of trunk; and the ratio of height.
Seeds are considered acrid, alexipharmic and lithotriptic, and used in strangury, urinary discharges, kidney complaints, gonorrhea, and head diseases. The fruits are taken to relieve thirst, eye diseases, poisoning and hallucinations.
